Kelley Student Center (JBK). Registration for this year’s Family Weekend begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 in the JBK, and before the magic begins, families can visit the University Bookstore or purchase a beverage at Java City. Comedy magician Tim Gabrielson will begin his magic act at 8:30 p.m. in the JBK Commons. Hot popcorn and movie candies will be served. Family Weekend is sponsored by WTAMU each year to give parents an opportunity to visit the campus and experience college life as a family. All events and activities throughout the weekend are free and open to all family members. “Families are important partners in helping students get the most from their experiences at West Texas A&M University,” Pam Thomas, special events coordinator, said. “We hope Family Weekend offers a positive and enriching experience for everyone.” Dr. J. Patrick O’Brien, WTAMU president, and the University’s vice presidents will be up early stirring batter and flipping pancakes for everyone at Saturday’s “Pancakes with the President” at 9:30 a.m. in the JBK Commons. WTAMU deans also will be on hand to answer any questions parents may have about the University and its various colleges. After the pancakes, parents and students can prepare for the Student Alumni Board’s Oozefest, a dirty game of mud volleyball, from noon-2 p.m. next to the soccer field. Campus tours will be conducted from 1-3 p.m. WTAMU’s Alumni Association will host tailgate activities at 3 p.m., and football action kicks off at 6 p.m. when the Buffs face Abilene Christian at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. Recreational Sports will host “The Fifth Quarter” following the football game with late night fun and games at the Virgil Henson Activities Center.
