The event, a thank-you to all WTAMU patrons and supporters, is in honor of Dr. George Eason, professor emeritus of music. Eason joined the Department of Music faculty in 1962, where he pioneered innovative techniques in the alleviation of performance anxiety, music therapy, jazz improvisation and more. In addition to being a caring professor, Eason also was a composer and skilled accompanist. He retired in 1986 after more than 20 years of guiding, teaching and encouraging hundreds of students. He was named professor emeritus in 1992 by The Texas A&M University Board of Regents. His love for the University continues today through the Ruth and George Eason Presidential Honor Scholarship, which he founded in loving memory of his wife. The evening’s program, a grand finale to the department’s annual Music Career Day, will feature performing members of the University’s music faculty in a collection of musical styles ranging from the classical to the contemporary. Brass, wind, string, piano and voice in solo and group performances will provide an evening of entertainment and gratitude to those who support the University’s music program throughout the year while showcasing faculty talent for prospective students. “This recital is an annual highlight and a rare occasion to see all of these professional musicians in a recital,” Dr. Cloyce Kuhnert, associate professor of music, said. “How blessed and fortunate WTAMU is to have these wonderful musicians that not only teach with excellence but also perform with excellence.” The public is invited, and admission is free. A reception will immediately follow the concert in the Northen Hall Atrium. For more information, call the Department of Music at 806-651-2840. —WTAMU— |
