Brock McGuire Band to Perform at WTAMU
CANYON, Texas—It will be a toe-tapping good time when the Brock McGuire Band brings its Irish music to West Texas A&M University in a 7:30 p.m. concert on Monday, Feb. 25 in Mary Moody Northen Recital Hall on campus.
The concert, sponsored by the Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanities, will benefit the School of Music scholarship fund. The College of Education and Social Sciences will sponsor a Meet-the-Artists reception in the atrium immediately following the concert.
The Brock McGuire Band is the recipient of the Instrumental Band of the Decade Award from the Irish American News and the Top of the World Award from Songlines, a world music magazine. The group is fronted by two of Ireland’s most celebrated traditional musicians—Paul Brock, accordian, and Manus McGuire, fiddle. They are joined by Garry O’Meara, banjo, mandolin and vocals, and Denis Carey, pianist. Together the group performs a repertoire of traditional Irish music mixed with a bit of bluegrass, American old timey, French-Canadian and Celtic.
The group has performed in venues from London to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn. Their latest CD, “Green Grass Blue Grass,” features Grammy winner Ricky Skaggs and is considered a masterpiece by American Music critic Bill Margeson.
Tickets will be available at the door or can be reserved by calling the School of Music at 806-651-2840. Prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children and students through high school. Patron tickets are $20 for a seat in one of the first three rows. WTAMU students, faculty and staff get in free with a Buff Gold Card.
