The Board approved the Phase 1 project with a $21.8 million budget. The facility, located just east of Jarrett Hall and north to the former site of the University’s Wind Test Center, will feature: • a practice field for the WTAMU marching band; • a competition softball field with seating; • a competition baseball field with seating; • a competition combined soccer and track and field facility with seating; • two combination football and soccer practice fields; • a three-field intramural and recreational softball/flag football facility with lighting; • two intramural basketball courts with lighting; • two intramural tennis courts with lighting; • a grand lawn park activity area with lighting; • a jogging trail with lighting; and • rest room, concession and ticket facilities. The Board also approved resolutions expressing appreciation to several 2009 WTAMU teams. The University’s horse judging team was recognized for its championship win at the American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Collegiate Judging contest, as well as placing second at the National Reining Horse Association Championship Collegiate Judging Contest. Team members also were recognized. The WTAMU men’s soccer team also was recognized for its outstanding accomplishments during the 2009 season including being named Lone Star Conference co-champion, an NCAA South Central Region finalist and for a third-place national ranking, the team’s highest ever. Outstanding team members and Coach Butch Lauffer, NSCAA/MONDO South Central Region Coach of the Year, also were recognized. The Board also adopted a resolution regarding the outstanding accomplishments of the WTAMU Lady Buff volleyball team. The team earned a fourth consecutive Lone Star Conference (LSC) regular-season title and a fourth-consecutive LSC championship. The team also was named the South Central Regional champion and made the University’s 11th appearance at the NCAA Elite Eight as well as its fourth appearance in the NCAA championship finals.
