Activities, Speakers to Highlight WTAMU Communication Week

CANYON, Texas—The Department of Communication at West Texas A&M University will host its annual Communication Week Feb. 18-20, with a full schedule of events, activities and speakers.

Communication Week celebrates the diversity of communication, and three days of activities focused on “The Power of One” have been planned. The activities are designed to unite all students, faculty and staff from every corner of the communication field including advertising/public relations, broadcast journalism, electronic media, communication studies and the graduate program.

At noon on Monday, Feb. 18, student will participate in How Much do you Know Game show at the Sybil B. Harrington Fine Arts Complex (FAC), Recital Hall. Students will be asked questions about members of the communication faculty to see how much they really know about their professors. Gift card and T-shirt door prizes will be included.

An Alumni Table Talk will follow at 5:30 p.m., in the AT&T HD Studio of the FAC. Students will get the chance to talk and mingle with media professionals such as political director of the Texas Republican Party, John McCord, communication coordinator of the Laura Bush Foundation, Jacklyn Inkhamheng, and producer of America’s Got Talent, Houston Howell, to name a few.

Immediately following the Alumni Table Talk, Dr. Clark Callahan, a communication studies scholar and WTAMU alumnus, will speak at 6:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the FAC.

Former CNN and CBS reporter Betty Nguyen will visit WTAMU on Tuesday, Feb. 19. She will speak at 7 p.m. in the Jack B. Kelley Student Center, Legacy Hall as part of the University’s Distinguished Lecture Series.

The final day of Communication Week will include Project Runway, where professors of the communication department will be dressed by students in clothing representing respective music genres. The event begins at noon in the FAC foyer on Thursday, Feb. 20.

Communication Week will conclude with Attorney Chris Stewart, who will give a presentation on Intellectual Property at 6 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the FAC Thursday, Feb. 20.
