Trial Databases

The Cornette Library is evaluating the following databases which are available to WTAMU students, faculty and staff for a limited time. Please give them a try and let us know what you think.

ebrary

ebrary provides easy access to thousands of full-text electronic books. Subject areas that are covered include:

You will need to download a plugin from the ebrary site before you will be able to read the books. Firefox 3 users will need to use a manual installation process - look for instructions on the download page. On a broadband connection, download of the plugin takes less than a minute.

If you also wish to be able to create a personal collection, place bookmarks, or highlight text, create a personalized account. Links for both of these activities are on the site homepage.

To search for a title on the basic search, use keywords. The advanced search button allows more sophisticated searching, such as subject, title, author and publisher. The browse option provides broad, then more specific subject categories to lead to a list of titles. For example: science > zoology> animal behavior (19 titles) or fine arts > painting > history (7 titles).

Page navigation is easy and rapid, and you can print a chapter with a single command. This is a nice interface for reading electronic books.

Business Research

Our IBISWorld trial is password based, so you will be required to login to get the username and password, and then go to the database home page. This database provides detailed, current reports on U.S. industry segments, global industries, U.S. and Canadian companies, and the current business environment.

Trial runs through November 29, 2008.

Global Road Warrior

Global Road Warrior provides easy access to detailed information about 175 countries around the world. Each country profile has standard entries for:

Most of these categories have several sub-categories, so that you can quickly narrow in on your specific area of interest.
