Kindle Guidelines

The Cornette Library is now offering Kindle e-book readers for checkout to current WTAMU students, faculty and staff! The Kindles have 6-inch E-Ink "electronic paper" displays and come with protective covers, carrying cases and USB/AC adapter cables.

What is a Kindle?

The Kindle is a device created by Amazon that allows you to read electronic books (e-books) and other digital media. It's about the size of a trade paperback and can hold up to 1,500 titles.

Information about the Kindle can be found on Amazon's product webpage

Borrow a Kindle

The library has 6 Kindles for checkout; however, due to high demand, the waiting period may be lengthy.

Borrowers must be currently enrolled students in good standing (i.e., library account not blocked due to unpaid fees or lost materials), or current faculty and staff in good standing. Borrowers accept responsibility for the Kindle and its accessories from the time they are borrowed until they are returned.

Borrowers must sign an agreement with each checkout acknowledging financial responsibility for lost or damaged equipment. The replacement cost for a lost, stolen or damaged Kindle and/or any accessories is current Amazon pricing plus a $10 processing fee plus any overdue fines accrued. Overdue fines accrue at a rate of $15 per day.

The library reserves the right to refuse service to anyone who abuses equipment or is repeatedly late in returning Kindles and/or accessories.

The loan period is 14 days with no renewals.

For a limited time period, when requesting a Kindle, you may also request your own e-book titles from titles found on Amazon's Kindle Store. Up to two (2) titles per person can be requested, at a total value of no more than $20.00 (whichever comes first); the library will then purchase and load them onto the Kindle before you check it out. These titles will then be added to the Cornette Library's collection.

Please note that we cannot put our Kindle books on your personal Kindle because of Amazon restrictions.

Request a Kindle

Email your request to the Cornette Library Circulation Unit or call us at 806-651-2223. Please include the title or titles you wish to request, along with your WTAMU email address, phone number, and Buff Gold card number.

You will be contacted by telephone or email when a Kindle is available for you. You will then have 3 days to pick up the Kindle. If it is not picked up within 3 days, the next person on the waiting list will be contacted.

It is critical that you read and respond to any phone calls or emails quickly.

Kindle requests will be processed between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

When picking up a Kindle at the Circulation Desk on the first floor of the Cornette Library, you will need to bring your Buff Gold card.

If any technical problems are encountered, the Kindle and its accessories should be returned immediately to the Circulation Desk.
