| Q.
Does it cost anything to rent equipment? |
A.
There is no cost to rent equipment
however, there are fees for late,
damaged or broken equipment and
for equipment returned with missing
parts.
|
| |
| Q.
How do I reserve equipment? |
A.
We require a 24 hour notice on
any equipment that you need. All
you need to do is call 7904, 7905,
or 7906 to make a reservation.
A valid Gold Card is required upon
check out of equipment.
|
| |
| Q.
How long can I keep
equipment that I have checked out? |
A.
The time that you may keep equipment
varies. The standard time limit
is 48 hours, however, extended
times will be approved based
upon the purpose
of use and availability of
the equipment requested.
|
| |
| Q.
Can I check out a laptop to do homework? |
A.
Unfortunately, due to limited
resources we are unable to check
out laptops
for extended use. If you have
extenuating circumstances and
are temporarily unable to get
to the Open Access Lab, your
request will be considered if
resources
are available. However, length
of use will be limited to 48
hours or one weekend.

| Q.
I have checked out a laptop from
the IITL and the software I need
is not installed; can I install
the
software myself? |
| Yes.
Provided that you have licensing
for the software and receive prior
approval from an IITL staff member.
Software must be uninstalled after
use. |
| |
| Q.
I let my roommate borrow the equipment
that I checked out and he/she broke
it. Who is responsible for repair/replacement
costs? |
| A.
The person who signed the contract
for the equipment is responsible
for any costs incurred due to damage,
late fees or missing parts. |
| |
| Q.
I need to check out equipment
for a class that I am teaching. Can
I send a student to pick it up and
sign for it? |
| A.
Yes, however, the student must sign
the contract, therefore, the contract
and reservation will be in the
student's name and the student
will be responsible for
the
equipment.
|
| |
| Q.
I have checked out equipment but
did not
finish my project. Can I call the
IITL and renew my contract via
the telephone? |
| A.
No. All equipment must be returned
to the office for renewal. If
the
equipment is not reserved, then
the contract may be extended. |
| |
| Q.
I have some VCR tapes that I need
copied. Can this be done in the
IITL? |
| A.
Yes. As long as it is for official
university use and does not break
federal or state copyright laws. |
| |
| Q.
Can you take my personal photos and
put them on a CD? |
| A.
No. The IITL equipment can only be
used for official university purposes.
There are scanners and CD burners
available in the Open Access Lab
for
student
use. |
| |
| Q.
How should artwork be sent to the IITL? |
| A.
Just drop off art work on a Floppy,
Zip Disk or CD. You can also attach
it to an e-mail and send it to
your contact in the IITL. |
| |
| Q.
Can you work with graphics from a
web site? |
| A.
We recommend against it; internet
images are optimized to be viewed
on a computer screen and usually
reduced to a small file size for
fast downloading. These images
will pixelize when enlarged and
the result will be a poor
image quality. |
| |
| Q.
Can the IITL print a poster out
for me for my class project? |
| A.
No. Services in the IITL are for
official university business only.
Students may print their posters
on the large format printer in
the Open Access Lab. |
| |
| Q.
Should I send Mac or PC files? |
| A.
Both Mac and PC files can be accessed
in the IITL. |
| |
| Q.
What is a Bitmap image? |
| A.
Bitmap images are made up of pixels,
and can not be scaled up effectively.
Bitmap is the ideal format for pictures
and web images such as GIF, JPG,
etc. |
| |
| Q.
What is a Vector image? |
| A.
Vector images can be scaled up or
down infinitely without the loss
of resolution. This is the file of
choice for logo and illustration.
Vector images also allow you to change
color and edit individual elements
with ease. |
