| How
do I schedule a class in the
HELC computerized classrooms? |
| A
facility request form is required
for scheduling of all events in
the HELC classrooms. This form
can be obtained by calling x7910.
A copy will be sent either by campus
mail or fax.
Classrooms
are assigned on a first-come
first-serve basis. If specialized
software or equipment is needed,
every effort will be made to
accommodate but please make your
intentions known as soon as possible.
Classes
scheduled for the entire semester
are required to specifically
use the computer technology at
least 75% of the time. Classes
not meeting these criteria should
schedule on a case-by-case basis. |
| |
| What
do I need to do to have specific
software installed where I am
teaching? |
| Specialized
software considerations should
be made available to HELC staff
at least 2 weeks in advance of
need. Copies of license agreements,
locations where currently installed,
media, and documentation are necessary
to facilitate this request.
Every
effort will be made to make the
software available. It should
be kept in mind that not every
application will work in every
given environment. Occasionally
conflicts between other applications,
networks, or Operating Systems
do arise. The more time that
we have to evaluate and install
the software, the less likelihood
of these complications arising.
Software
Purchasing Considerations: When
purchasing an application for
instruction in your class,
please make accommodations
for not only the computers
in the classroom, but for workstations
in the main Open Access Area.
The classrooms are not available
during all times for student
use. When students come in
on their own to do assignments,
an extended wait may occur
otherwise. |
| |
| If
I have a problem during my class,
what do I do? |
| Lab
assistants are available in the
main computer classroom for any
problems that arise during your
class. Most problems can be corrected
in a timely manner with little
to no disruption to your class.
Please be understanding that some
situations may require lengthy
support time. We wish to disrupt
your class for as little time as
possible, so if other workstations
are available we ask that your
students move to those as temporary
accommodations.
Unless
major complications are detected,
any problems should be corrected
before your next instructional
date.
Any
problems that you do not report
during the class period or special
requests that you have for the
computers should be made through
the Information Technology Service
Center (ITSC). Forms are available
in the front of all classrooms
to assist you in this procedure. |
| |
| How
much support can I expect from
the student staff in the HELC? |
| The
student staff's primary responsible
to the HELC are as Lab Assistants
to the Open Access Lab. They are
there to assist students with checkin/checkout
procedures; activating accounts;
printing needs; and minor hardware
and software considerations.
They
are also available for limited
support in the classrooms. They
will attempt to remedy any problem
that arises, assist the instructor
with the technology in the classroom,
and aid students in accessing
the systems.
Lab
Assistants are not available
as tutors or to render specific
aid with homework assignments.
Students needing additional help
are recommended to contact their
instructor or Student Support
Services. Lab Assistants are
not available as teaching aids
during class times. |
To
request services from any Information
Technology unit, please contact
the Information Technology
Service Center at extension
