West Texas A&M

Calling all Buffaloes, past, present and future to help “Bring Home the Herd” Sept. 27-Oct. 4 as we celebrate West Texas A&M University Homecoming 2008.

Cheer on the Buffs as they tackle Midwestern State University, followed by a concert featuring American Idol finalist Kellie Pickler and former ASCAP songwriter of the year, Phil Vassar at the First United Bank Center.

Pre-game activities include Amarillo pep rally, Pigskin Revue pep rally, lighting of the bonfire, the Homecoming Parade, Fair on the Square and pitchfork fondue.

For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the Alumni Association at 806-651-2311 or register online.  Buffalo Courts Alumni Center will be open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. the week of Homecoming, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.  Join us for Homecoming 2008 and help “Bring Home the Herd.”

The WTAMU Buffs battle Midwestern State on the gridiron at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.  After edging Midwestern State 29-27 at Homecoming 2006, the Buffs are primed for a repeat.

Tickets available through Panhandle Tickets at 806-378-3096,  or at the gate on game day.

AMARILLO PEP RALLY

Help us carry the Buffalo Spirit to Amarillo as we show our support for the maroon and white.  Join the team, band and cheerleaders from 5:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the Amarillo Civic Center, Grand Plaza. It’s free and open to the public.

HOMECOMING CONCERT

The First United Bank Center opens at 10 p.m. to the sounds of Phil Vassar and Kellie Pickler following the big game against Midwestern State.

Get your tickets early at 806-651-1414 or through Panhandle Tickets.

Phil Vassar

Those who best understand Phil Vassar – good-time, whirling-dervish-on-the-piano, hardest-working-man-in-country-music – also understand the ongoing evolution of his mostly self-penned music. Prayer of a Common Man, his fourth studio album and first for Universal Records South, adds several more layers of artistic expression to his deepening repertoire.

The Virginia-born singer, songwriter, and musician took his seat as country’s leading piano man with the success of songs like “Just Another Day in Paradise” and “Six-Pack Summer,” and his penchant for pure musical escapism continues.

Kellie Pickler

Even before she made it to the finals of the fifth season of one of the most influential televised talent shows ever, signed a contract with 19 Recordings/BNA Records, criss-crossed the country with the American Idols Live!
