Freshmen Leadership Organization (FLO)

Bylaws

Section 1. The purpose of the Freshmen Leadership Organization (a branch of Student Government) is to make the freshmen more effective members of the West Texas A&M University Student Government by building their leadership and professional skills.

Section 2. Any full-time freshmen student (as defined as having 30 hours or less) shall be eligible to be a member of FLO.

Section 3. Members of FLO are selected by an application and interview process.

  • The interviewing committee shall consist of the executive director, the president and vice president of the student body and the advisor of FLO (if they wish to participate).

Section 4. The executive director and supporting director(s) of FLO shall be appointed by the student body president and the Special Appointing Committee.

  • The executive director must have been a member of FLO prior to his/her appointment and must have been a member of Student Government in some fashion. Once appointed, they must continue to be a member of Student Government.
  • The supporting director(s) must have been members of a credible leadership organization prior to their appointment.
  • The governing body over FLO shall consist of: the president and vice president of the student body and the executive director and supporting director(s) of FLO.

Section 5. FLO will hold meetings twice a month (every other week), amounting to eight (8) total meetings per semester, except for the spring semester when the last meeting will be the week following the general elections.

  • Members will be required to attend six (6) of the eight (8) meetings. For the spring semester, they will be required to attend the total number of meetings minus two (2).
  • FLO members that are not senators will be required to attend two (2) Student Senate meetings.
  • FLO meetings shall be conducted following parliamentary procedures.

Section 6. FLO members will be required to attend and participate in all activities that the West Texas A&M University Student Government participates in, unless a valid excuse is provided by the member to the executive director.

  • FLO members will also be required to participate in all activities outside of Student Government as seen fit by the executive director, unless a valid excuse is provided by the member to the executive director.

Section 7. All FLO members will be required to be members of one (1) other campus organization. As the members are going to be leaders of their class, they can also aspire to be leaders of their organization.

Section 8. FLO members will conduct one (1) community service project during the spring semester.

  • The members will be responsible for identifying a need on the campus or in the community and carrying out a project to fulfill this need.

Section 9. The dress code for FLO members will be at the discretion of the executive director.
