Corporate and Foundation Relations

As West Texas A&M University looks to the future and strives to meet its strategic goals - working toward a more independently sustainable future through the current campaign and beyond is essential. As part of this effort corporate and foundation relations play a vital role. The Office of Institutional Advancement works to initiate and coordinate relationships that support the University’s overarching mission. Working with administrators, faculty, development staff, and others; Corporate and Foundation Relations, part of WTAMU Foundation’s Advancement Services, helps provide strategic planning, services, and tools to connect the University with foundations, businesses, and industry with similar interests and goals.

THE ROLE OF PRIVATE SUPPORT

Over the years, state appropriations have steadily declined. In 1984 state appropriations made up 89 percent of the university’s revenue while tuition revenue provided only 11 percent. In contrast, state appropriations for the 2013 budget made up only 43 percent of WTAMU’s revenues with tuition revenue increasing to over 57 percent. While tuition and fees now cover a much more significant portion of the revenue stream, there is still a considerable deficit that needs to be met each year in order to ensure students receive the education and services they need at an affordable price. This makes it crucial for WTAMU to seek assistance from private sources. Private funding helps ensure that the university can continue to fulfill its mission through education, research, and service. Gifts and grants from private institutions, such as foundations and corporations, play a vital role in ensuring WTAMU continues to educate and engage tomorrow’s leaders through innovative academic and co-curricular programs; thereby expanding the frontiers of knowledge and positively influencing the culture and economy of the region and beyond.
