Focus Group Results Pampa, May 6 West Texas A&M University alumni in the Pampa area came together recently to discuss the most effective ways the University can prepare for a successful second century of education and service. Graduates of the last 50 years talked about WTAMU memories, the common interest to stay connected to each other, contribution preferences, the chartering of local alumni chapters and the best forms of media for WT to deliver its message. The focus group gathered crucial information that will be compiled to create positive advancement throughout WTAMU. Memory of being a Buff: I remember fun, on campus activities and co-ed sports. David Dr. Treckle made accounting a memorable academic challenge. Ray I remember the great nursing instructors and the quality of my education. Doug It was a postive environment for learning; WT nursing graduates had learned the most and were the most relaxed and ready to care for patients. We gained strong problem solving skills. Stacey Perception of WT today: Many Pampa teachers are alumni and are highly reguarded. WT has built a reputation as a top tier school. Keith WT is a progressive school that produces quality graduates that are ready to work. Stacey Adding programs such as engineering makes WT a progressive institution. Chuck What does an alumni want to know? Keep businesses informed of prospective graduates that they might employ or give an internship to. My intern was a great experience. Stacey Tell us about graduates who are making an impact on the world. Chuck Tell me about new courses and programs. David Businesses would like to know about intern prospects, job fairs and success stories. Keith My wife and I would like to know about special events or celebrations that might bring us back to campus. Chuck How would you want to know? A virtual tour on the website would be neat. I would like to see progress or changes on campus. Ray The West Texan is an excellent magazine. David Email is a convenient vehicle. Ray How frequently would you like to hear? The group concurred that a varied and consistent monthly communication plan was best, in addition to continuing the quarterly magazine. Fundraising Priorities? Maintaining the buildings preserves your assets and programs are the heart of the University. They both drive faculty and students. Keith If you provide me with good employees, I will be more likely to support WT both personally and business-wise. Many larger schools do not have values and ethics that reflect those of the Panhandle. Stacey Programs are important to all types of students. Ray |
