Advising: Resources for Faculty and Staff

Resources for Faculty and Staff

Preparing to be an Academic Adviser

Academic advising is more than simply helping students choose courses and understand graduation requirements. Students constantly come to their advisers seeking help for a wide range of concerns that vary from planning next term's schedule, to finding alternative majors, to personal problems.  In addition to serving students, Advising Services also has resources to help faculty and staff with academic advising.

Important Links and Forms:

It is important to be attentive to what the student is saying and also to non-verbal behaviors that may indicate that the student needs additional resources. If you feel like the student could benefit from additional student support, please contact Advising Services at 806.651.5300 or the Student Success Center at 806.651.CARE (2273).

Group Advising

Group advising is designed specifically to assist students with choosing courses and  with understanding graduation requirements. The group advising sessions are either hosted by departments or specific majors and may be required or optional based upon departmental decision.
