Admission Requirements

Join Us for Fall 2014!

By the numbers, 71 percent of freshman applicants are admitted to West Texas A&M University. Your chances are excellent and we want you to make plans to attend this next year.

We will work with you to make the application process as smooth as possible. There are some items we'll need, but in short we will admit applicants that meet the three conditions below:

  1. Obtain a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA).
  2. Meet one of the following class rank and ACT/SAT requirements:

    Class Rank and ACT/SAT* Score
Top 25% with no minimum ACT/SAT score
    26%-50% with 17 ACT or 820 SAT
    51%-75% with 20 ACT or 940 SAT
    76%-100% with 21 ACT or 980 SAT
*ACT Composite Score and SAT Critical Reading + Math Score.  We do not currently require the writing section of the SAT for Admissions purposes; all class percentages that contain decimal points will be rounded up to the next percentile (e.g. 10.1% is equivalent to 11%.)

Important: Students who do not meet the class rank + ACT/SAT requirements will be reviewed for admission on a competitive, individual basis, with weighted consideration of class rank and standardized test scores (ACT or SAT.) We encourage all students to apply for admission.
  3. Complete (or have a projected completion) of the Texas Recommended High School Program* or similar college preparatory program. This includes:

Social Science
Physical Education
Fine Arts
Foreign Language

 Exceptions to requirement #3:

  • Students who do not meet the Texas Recommended High School Program may qualify for admission by satisfying the College Readiness Benchmarks on the ACT or SAT assessment: minimum scores of 18 English, 21 Reading, 22 Mathematics, and 24 Science on the ACT, or 1500 out of 2400 (to include the writing section) on the SAT.
  • Students from Texas public high schools that did not offer the Texas Recommended High School Program or who have only completed a portion because not all the courses were available or other circumstances (and who have not satisfied the College Readiness Benchmarks) may complete HB 3826 Exemption Form below.
  • Students from out of state, private schools, or home schools who have not completed the Texas Recommended High School Program (and who have not satisfied the College Readiness Benchmarks) may complete HB 3826 Exemption Form below

Exemptions from the Policy

To claim an exemption from the Policy, students must submit one of the two exemption forms completed by the high school counselor or other school official, in addition to all other required credentials. The forms below can be printed and submitted via the instructions on the form.
