VICTIM'S RIGHTS

  • The victim shall be informed, present and heard at all crucial stages of the criminal justice proceedings, and be told how to participate in these proceedings.
  • The victim shall be informed about the availability of crime victim's compensation and other victim's services by contacting the victim assistance coordinator of the University Police Department.
  • The victim shall be protected from intimidation.
  • The victim shall have the right to submit a victim impact statement.
  • The victim shall have the right to seek restitution from the offender.
  • The victim shall have the right to have the proceeding's officer take the safety of the victim or his/her family into consideration as an element in determining the final disposition for the accused.
  • The victim shall have the right, upon request, to be provided with a waiting area, separate or secure from other witnesses, including the accused offender and relatives of the accused offender before testifying in any proceeding concerning the accused offender; if a separate waiting area is not available, other safeguards should be taken to minimize the victim's contact with the accused offender and the accused offender's relatives and witnesses, before and during the proceedings.
