Global Media for Social Change

Cape Town is a city still recovering from the impact of apartheid and showcases a juxtaposition of beautiful nature, history and challenging social issues that provide the ideal service learning opportunity for students. Students will be able to apply what they learn in the classroom by working on specific projects with different local organizations, while exploring unique sites and engaging in cultural activities. This program is part of a Spring semester course.

Spanish Immersion in Costa Rica

Improve your Spanish language skills, immerse yourself in the Costa Rican culture and history, and enjoy "Pura Vida". Heredia, a city known as the "City of Flowers", provides an ideal atmosphere for a Spanish language immersion. Adding to the charm of Heredia, the surrounding countryside is home to many coffee plantations and small farms. Heredia is also home to several universties, making it one of the educational centers of the country.

Buffs in Nicaragua: Spanish for Ag students

Nicaragua provides the largest diversity of agriculture in Central America within the smallest area. Students will have the opportunity to visit one of the local universities and interact with local students and professors, practice their Spanish skills, and experience a wide range of agricultural diversity within the country, by visiting local farms, including corn and coffee farms, sugar plantations and cattle farms, to then compare and contrast their operations with their large counterparts in the US.

Nations and Borderlands: Germans, Poles and Jews in Contemporary Europe

This program will offer students an opportunity to explore the history and culture of German, Polish and Jewish cultures in Central Europe, addressing such topics as comparative civic and ethnic nationalism, anti-Semitism, the emergence of modern Germany, the Polish Partitions, the Second World War and the Holocaust. The sites have been chosen to reinforce the cultural differences as well as the similarities of Germany and Poland.

WTAMU Horn Choir Concert Tour

The WTAMU Horn Choir will have a unique opportunity to perform at three historically significant venues in Scotland: St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburg, St. Andrews Church in Inverness, and the Central Church of Edinburg. During their time abroad, students will be exposed to a multitude of culturally enriching experiences, attend concerts and visit sites of great significance. All of these experiences will deepen the students' global perspective and provide a much broader cultural appreciation.
