Professional Profile

Mr. Melby joined the College of Education and Social Sciences in 2017. He received a B.S. in Psychology from Minnesota State University at Mankato in 1985, an M.A. in Physical Education with a concentration in the Psychosocial Aspects of Sport from Minnesota State University at Mankato in 1993 and a M.S.W. from New Mexico Highlands University in 1998  He is currently pursuing a PhD in Psychology with an emphasis in Performance Psychology Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, Arizona.

Presented at the 50th New Mexico Addiction Education Network (NMAEN) Conference in at Western New Mexico University in Silver City New Mexico.  The 3 hour presentation was titled, "Social Work Perspectives on Addiction: A Multicultural Perspective."  August, 2, 2016.

Mr. Melby’s research interests include performance aspects of practicing social workers, building positive cultures in athletics and team-building aspects of organizations.

Personal Sketch

Mr. Melby and his wife, Dr. Beth Birky-Melby reside in Portales, New Mexico, where his wife is a Professor at Eastern New Mexico University.  They have enjoyed renovating their home and both enjoy an active lifestyle.  Mr. Melby is an avid golfer and enjoys the challenges of playing through the winds of West Texas.
