Department of Sports and Exercise Sciences Success Stories Recognized Expert. Dr. Michael Meyers directs the Human Performance Research Lab in the Department of Sports and Exercise Sciences. He is a recognized expert in sport and human performance and is frequently consulted by athletic teams in the United States and abroad. Full Accreditation. The new Athletic Training Education Program at West Texas A&M University received full accreditation in 2006–2007 from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. The initial accreditation for one of the University’s youngest programs (begun in 2004) was recommended by the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Athletic Training and enables students in the program to take exams that lead to national certification. National Service Award. Lorna Strong, instructor of sports and exercise sciences and director of the Athletic Training Education Program, is the recipient of an Athletic Trainer Service Award from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA). The national award recognizes NATA members for their contributions to the athletic training profession and the association through local, state, district and national service. |
