Welcome to the School of Music at West Texas A&M University (WTAMU). We are extremely proud of our department, our faculty and our students. The department is comprised of 26 faculty members and approximately 200 music majors.
Our students have a selection of excellent performing ensembles in which to participate. All of our ensembles have made numerous appearances at professional meetings and tour throughout the state. In addition to these large ensembles, students have a number of smaller ensembles in which they may participate.
Our music faculty members are leaders in their selected field, receiving awards for their teaching or creative/scholarly activities. Many faculty members are principal players in Amarillo performing venues. Our faculty members are excellent clinicians and adjudicators. Except for harp and organ, resident faculty members teach all applied lessons. We do not offer lessons on guitar.
Here at WTAMU, we offer five undergraduate degree options in music. Students may select from a major in composition, all-level certification (preparation to teach in the public schools), therapy, performance or a degree in music with selective studies in business. At the graduate level, we offer a master of arts degree in music and a master of music degree in performance. I encourage you to explore these options in more detail.
I think you will find the environment at West Texas A&M University conducive to learning and very rewarding and exciting. We are proud of the fact we are small enough that students receive instruction from an expert in their field. Students have regular interaction with our faculty, both in and out of class. We are just as proud we are large enough to offer many opportunities for students to perform, learn and get involved in college life.
