Capt, Ph.D. Assistant Professor Office: Old Main, Room 418D Email: rcapt@wtamu.edu Phone: 806-651-3630 Professional Profile Dr. Capt joined the College of Education and Social Sciences in the fall of 2008. She received a B.S. in education from the University of Texas at Austin in 1987 and has a Texas Life Teaching Certificate in secondary mathematics and physical science. She earned her M.Ed. in educational administration from Texas State University in 1999 and a Ph.D. in higher education from Texas Tech University in 2008. Teaching and Related Service Dr. Capt teaches educational professional development foundation courses and educational psychology. The enterprise to excel as a scholar, researcher and professor is at the heart of Dr. Capt’s personal and professional goals. WTAMU provides her the wonderful opportunity to teach courses, conduct research, collaborate with faculty members, publish, and serve the surrounding community. Research and Creative Activity Dr. Capt is a co-recipient of the combined Institute for Community College Development (ICCD) at Cornell and State University of New York (SUNY) grant to conduct research on community colleges where the findings have been presented at local, state and national conferences including the Southwest Educational Research Association (SERA), the Council for the Study of Community Colleges (CSCC) and the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE). Dr. Capt’s research interest includes the study of community colleges with focus on faculty teaching and the colleges’ mission of developmental education. Her ambition is to contribute to the educational research that links student learning and faculty instruction to increased student success in higher education. Personal Sketch Dr. Capt’s greatest happiness includes her husband, Mike and three teenage children, Liz, Emily and Bill. She and her husband enjoy attending high school football half-time shows to watch her children march with the band and perform with the color guard. |
