Darla Beaty

Dr. Darla Beaty

Assistant Professor of Social Work

As a practicing MSSW for 25 years, I learned so much from the wisdom of my clients, who came to me because of challenges they faced in dealing with substance abuse, mental health disorders or complications of medical problems. Once I had social work students placed with me in field, I learned the joy of helping others learn about our noble profession. Now as a faculty member at WT, I look forward to each semester and the adventure of knowledge and skill building.

Dr. Maureen Cuevas

Dr. Maureen Cuevas

Assistant Professor of Social Work

"The most enjoyable thing about teaching for me is that is allows me to keep learning every day. With each new student and each new semester, I discover some aspect of the topics we cover that I hadn't considered before, and I discover some part of myself that I hadn't highlighted before. Also, teaching keeps me honest. I can't teach social work without constantly re-evaluating how I live my life and what messages I am sending with my actions, so i have to be real and true and open to whatever is going on around me, and I love that."

Dr. Keith Price

Dr. Keith Price

Associate Professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice

"After working for the Texas prison system for thirty years, my parole to West Texas A&M University is like making it to heaven. Students are fairly easy to manage after dealing with robbers, rapists and murderers and a lot more fun. Come take a class in criminal justice or sociology and learn why it is better to be a student than a convict."

Cara Speer

Cara Speer

Instructor of Social Work

"I thoroughly enjoy introducing students to a profession I love - the profession of social work. Ours is a profession that treats people with respect and dignity without asking, 'Does this person deserve respect?' Ours is a profession that values relationships between humans and seeks to enhance those relationships. I want to replenish our profession with dedicated and well-educated, young social workers. That is why I am at WTAMU."
