He received a B.S. in physics from Texas A&M University in 1979, an M.S. in physics from New Mexico Tech in 1982, and a Ph.D in physics from Louisiana State University in 1998. Teaching and Related Service Fisher teaches several physics courses, including general physics, engineering physics, and introductory astronomy, as well as special topics courses for physics majors. He is a member of the American Astronomical Society, as well as the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, the American Physical Society and the American Association of Physics Teachers. He also is a member of the Amarillo Amateur Astronomy Club and works closely with them. Research and Creative Activity His research interests include observational radio astronomy, with particular emphasis on observations of spiral galaxies and variable stars. He also works on computational models of galactic dynamics. Currently, he is helping to establish the WTAMU Observatory, which will house a 16-inch telescope to conduct astronomical observations of variable stars. Personal Sketch He enjoys history, ancient languages, modern electronics and long hikes in Palo Duro Canyon. |
