University Core Curriculum Requirements

NOTE: Music majors cannot receive core credit for MUSI 1306.
MUSI 1208 and 1209 satisfies “Visual and Performing Arts” in the core curriculum.

Music Core Requirements

  • MUSI 1372, 1208, 1209, 1373, 2372, 2373, 3105, 3347, 3349.
  • Four semester hours from MUSI 3256, 3263, 3264, 3265, 3266, 3267, 3268, 3269, 3270.
  • MUAP 10XX (two credit hours for each of four semesters).
  • MUAP 30XX (two credit hours for each of two semesters).
  • Four semester hours major ensemble.

Required Music Courses for Emphases

Instrumental Emphasis

  • Four one-hour enrollments in piano with a grade of “C” or better from MUSI 1180, 2180, MUAP 1069, 3069.
  • MUSI 2371, 3207, 3129, 3135; eight semester hours from 3233, 3234, 3037 (two hours), 3238.
  • EDPD 3340, EPSY 3341, EDPD 4340 or MUSI 4327, EDSE 4328, EPSY 3350 or MUSI 4326, EDRD 4304, EDEL 4340, EDSE 4341, EDT 3343 or MUSI 3343.

Keyboard Emphasis

  • Four one-hour enrollments in MUAP 1081.
  • MUSI 3207 or 3209, 3312, 3232, 3037 (one hour), 4251, 4252.
  • EDPD 3340, EPSY 3341, EDPD 4340 or MUSI 4326 or 4327, EDSE 4328, EPSY 3350 or MUSI 2371, EDRD 4304, EDEL 4340, EDSE 4341, EDT 3343 or MUSI 3343.
  • Two hours music electives.

Voice Emphasis

  • Four one-hour enrollments in piano with a grade of “C” or better from MUSI 1180, 2180, MUAP 1069, 3069.
  • MUSI 1161, 1160, 3209, 3312, 3232, 3037 (one hour), four hours from 3117, 3119, 3162 (maximum of two hours), 4212.
  • EDPD 3340, EPSY 3341, EDPD 4340 or MUSI 4326 or 4327, EDSE 4328, EPSY 3350 or MUSI 2371, EDRD 4304, EDEL 4340, EDSE 4341, EDT 3343 or MUSI 3343.

Other Requirements

  • A minimum of eight semesters of major ensemble (two credit hours each long-term semester).
  • Recital, concert, weekly seminar and departmental meeting attendance.
  • Satisfactory senior recital performance before graduation.
  • Students majoring in music (all-level certification) are encouraged to attend at least one summer school session to allow greater freedom during regular semesters to participate in unrequired but valuable courses such as small ensembles.
