University Core Curriculum Requirements

NOTE: Music majors cannot receive core credit for MUSI 1306 or 1310
MUSI 1307 satisfies “Creative Arts” in the core curriculum.

Music Core Requirements

  • MUSI 1311, 1116, 1312, 1117, 2311, 2116, 2312, 2117, 3105, 3347, 3349.
  • Four semester hours from MUSI 3256, 3263, 3264, 3265, 3266, 3267, 3268, 3269, 3270.
  • MUAP 10XX (two credit hours for each of four semesters).
  • MUAP 30XX (two credit hours for each of two semesters).
  • MUSI 4194 (one credit hour taken along with last semester of MUAP 30XX).
  • Eight semesters of major ensemble (MUEN 1XXX, 3XXX).

Instrumental Emphasis

  • Four one-hour enrollments in piano with a grade of “C” or higher from MUSI 1181, 1182, 2181, 2182, MUAP 1069, 3069.
  • MUSI 2271, 1192, 3129, 3207, 3233, 3234, 3135, 3037, 3238.
  • EDPD 3340, EPSY 3341, EDPD 4340 or MUSI 4327, EDSE 4328, EPSY 3350 or MUSI 4326, EDRD 4304, EDEL 4340, EDSE 4341, EDT 3343 or MUSI 3343.

Keyboard Emphasis

  • Four one-hour enrollments in MUAP 1081.
  • MUSI 3207 or 3209, 4312, 3232, 3037 (one hour), 4242, 4252.
  • EDPD 3340, EPSY 3341, MUSI 4326 or 4327, EDSE 4328, MUSI 2271, MUSI 1192, EDRD 4304, EDEL 4340, EDSE 4341
  • Two hours music electives.

Voice Emphasis

  • Four one-hour enrollments in piano with a grade of “C” or higher from MUSI 1181, 1182, 2181, 2182, MUAP 1069, 3069.
  • MUSI 1161, 1160, 3209, 4312, 3232, 3037 (one hour), four hours from 2160, 2161, 3162 (maximum of two hours), 4212.
  • EDPD 3340, EPSY 3341, MUSI 4326 or 4327, EDSE 4328, MUSI 2271, MUSI 1192, EDRD 4304, EDEL 4340, EDSE 4341, EDT 3343 or MUSI 3343.

Other Requirements

  • Students must take and pass TExES Exams 160 and 177 before student teaching.
  • A minimum of eight semesters of major ensemble (two credit hours each long-term semester).
  • Students must enroll in Music Recital (MUSI RCTL) every semester they are in rolled in nine or more hours.
  • Recital, concert, weekly seminar and departmental meeting attendance.
  • Satisfactory senior recital performance before graduation.
  • Students majoring in music (all-level certification) are encouraged to attend at least one summer school session to allow greater freedom during regular semesters to participate in unrequired but valuable courses such as small ensembles.
