Professional Profile

Dr. Saleem joined the Department of Education in 2009. He received a B.S. in Chemistry Education from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1999, a Masters in Education Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2002, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 2009. He has worked as a science and math teacher and is a former school principal.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Saleem teaches teacher preparation courses in the Department of Education and serves as Co-Chair for the Master of Arts in Teaching program. Courses he has developed and taught include Education Foundations, Educational Psychology, Classroom Management, and graduate level courses in Multicultural Education and Theories and Practices in Classroom Management.

Dr. Saleem has presented his work at international, national, regional, and local conventions. He is a member of the American Education Research Association, International Institute of Informatics and Systemics, and the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education.

Dr. Saleem currently serves as a faculty advisor for the Iota Theta Chapter of the Kappa Delta Pi International Society in Education and the Bilingual Education Student Organization. He is also a member of the WTAMU Diversity Committee.

Research and Creative Activity

Dr.Saleem’s research interests are in the areas of curriculum and instruction with a focus on the implementation of innovative technologies in educational settings (particularly video games and simulations) and international implementation of educational technology. He is also interested in teacher education, multicultural education, culturally relevant pedagogy, and social justice issues. His other research interests include ethnography of Islamic schools in the United States.

Personal Sketch

Dr. Saleem lives in Canyon with his wife and their three children; Omar, Fatima, and Bushra. Omar and Fatima attend Reeves-Hinger Elementary. His 'Zen moment' is camping with his family in the great American outdoors. He also enjoys watching his kids compete in martial arts.
