Dr. Loya joined the Department of Psychology, Sociology and Social Work in 2000. She received a B.S. in social work (BSW) from West Texas A&M University in 1993, a M.S. in social work (MSSW) from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1997 and a Ph.D. in human services from Capella University in 2007.
Dr. Loya teaches across the social work program curriculum offering both traditional face-to-face courses and has developed several online courses and she currently serves as the MSSW Program Director.She has several online courses offered through Education on Demand including SOCW/SOCI 4320 (Perspectives on Loss & Grief); SOCW 4303 (Social Services to Children and Families) and SOCW/PSYC 2315 (Human Behavior and Personal Adjustment).
Dr. Loya enjoys developing and leading short-term study abroad programs to Latin America. Programs to date include Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.
Dr. Loya's research interests include immigration, cultural humility, and study abroad.
