Melody Aye Loya, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Social Work Office: Old Main, Room 427 Email: mloya@wtamu.edu Phone: 806-651-2594 Professional Profile Dr. Loya joined the Department of Psychology, Sociology and Social Work in 2000. She received a B.S. in social work (BSW) from West Texas A&M University in 1993, a M.S. in social work (MSSW) from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1997 and a Ph.D. in human services from Capella University in 2006. Teaching and Related Service Dr. Loya teaches across the social work program curriculum offering both traditional, in-class courses and has developed several online courses. She is also the field coordinator. Along with other social work faculty, Dr. Loya provides oversight at West Texas Family and Community Services, a project of West Texas A&M University. The project is housed in the Tyler Street Resource Center in Amarillo, where students provide case management, psycho-educational groups and counseling to a diverse population. Dr. Loya is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and serves as the adviser for the Social Work Club. Research and Creative Activity Dr. Loya's research interests include racial attitudes, cultural awareness and international adoption. Personal Sketch Dr. Loya lives in Amarillo with her husband and two cats and enjoys traveling as much as possible. She has two daughters and four grandchildren. |
