The Panhandle Math and Science Conference will be held on Tuesday, August 4th and Wednesday, August 5th at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas.  This two-day conference will bring together K-12 mathematics and science educators from across the Panhandle, South Plains, and surrounding areas. It is the first union of the WTAMU Panhandle Area Mathematics and Science Conference, the Region 16 Mathematics Conference, and the Region 16 Science Conference.

Block reservations have been released back to the hotels though participants are still encouraged to check for room availability.   The WT shuttle will pick participants up at 8 AM for delivery to WT and at 4 PM for delivery back to the hotel each day of the conference.                                                                                   

Parking Information

Shuttle Bus IconParking available in Parking Lot Zone 12 and the First United Bank Center with a shuttle to campus. Parking is available for free during the conference only in Zone 12, parking area between 23rd St. and west of Mary Moody Northern Hall (see Campus Map).

Conference will take place in the Jack B. Kelley Student Center and Classroom Center.

Call for Presenters

WTAMU and Region 16 are joining forces to host the PMSC Conference on Tuesday, August 4 and Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at WTAMU in Canyon, Texas. This two day conference will bring together mathematics and science educators from across the Panhandle, South Plains, and surrounding areas. The conference will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a keynote speaker and 1 hour breakout sessions each day.

Jacob Breeden, owner of Process Art House

Jacob Breeden is a husband, a father of three daughters, an artist and an entrepreneur.

Jacob holds a BFA in Sculpture from the University of North Texas. He has sold well over 300 works in his career and is part of the permanent collections of WTAMU, Amarillo National Bank, Proffer Plastic Surgery Center, BSA Hospital and countless amazing collectors of art across the United States. He is trained as a painter, a sculptor, an illustrator, a designer, a writer, and a public speaker. He has delivered talks about creativity for the last 10 years for conferences, private groups, educators, health care providers, and just about anyone else who will listen.

Jacob received the 2014 Top Twenty Under Forty for Business Professionals award from the Chamber of Commerce and is the proud recipient of a 2015 $100,000 EnterPrize Challenge grant from the WTAMU Enterprise Center and the AEDC. His business, Process Art House is now in it's fourth year of operation and has experienced strong growth each year of operation. It is currently poised for significant national expansion. As a sculptor he is currently developing several large municipal commissions and will be traveling to New York City in June to participate in Figment and to the Burning Man Festival in August to assist with the installation of several large outdoor sculptures.

Jacob firmly believes that creative thinking can be seamlessly integrated into all aspects of life, and will be the key factor in development of the new American economy. He can't wait to show you how.


Aaron Sams, co-author of Flip Your Classroom

Aaron Sams

Aaron Sams has been an educator since 2000 and is currently the Managing Director of FlippedClass.com, co-founder of The Flipped Learning Network™, and is an Adjunct Professor at Saint Vincent College.  He was awarded the 2009 Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching and was a Chemistry teacher in Woodland Park, CO and in Hacienda Heights, CA. Aaron also served as co-chair of the Colorado State Science Standards Revision Committee and serves as an advisor to TED-Ed. Aaron co-authored Flip Your Classroom: Reach Every Student in Every Class Every Day and Flipped Learning: Gateway to Student Engagement. He frequently speaks and conducts workshops on educational uses of screencasts and The Flipped Classroom concept. He advocates inquiry-based and student-centered learning environments in which students are encouraged to demonstrate their understanding in ways that are meaningful to them. With experience in public, private, and home schools, in both face-to-face, online, and blended learning environments, Aaron brings a unique educational perspective to any audience. He is a lifelong learner, reader, maker, and explorer. He holds both a B.S. in Biochemistry and an M.A.Ed. from Biola University.


High School Grants

High School Grants available are:

American Chemical Society, Panhandle Plains Local Section
The American Chemical Society Panhandle Plains Local Section is pleased to announce the availability of two $500 instructional material grants to support chemistry instruction at the high school level.  Awardees will be provided these grants at the Panhandle Math and Science Conference in August 2015.  Due Date:  June 26, 2015.
