Professional Profile

Lyudmila Abbasova is a full-time instructor of Class Piano and Music Theory at the WTAMU School of Music. She received a Diploma in Music/ Piano Performance and a Teaching Certification Degree for Piano, Solfeggio, Music Theory, and Music Literature from the Baku College of Music in 1979. In 1989, she obtained a Post-Master Degree in Piano Performance and Music Theory from the Music Conservatory in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Teaching and Related Service

In 1980, Ms. Abbasova became an instructor of piano, solfeggio, music theory, and music literature for various music schools. Beginning in 1990, she served for six years as Principal for the School of Music, Art, and Dance in Belarus. Her awards during her tenure included two certificates: “Excellence in Teaching” and “Teacher of the Year”. In 1993, she was named the winner of the International Music Competition receiving a prestigious National Award from the Ministry of Music Culture (Belarus).

Ms. Abbasova has worked for West Texas A&M University since 1998. She had served the Amarillo and Canyon area as an accompanist for over 1000 performances including faculty recitals, solo artist recitals, student recitals, and operatic productions. She has also worked as a music director, orchestra conductor, and vocal coach.

In 2000, she was honored with the “Staff Award” and the “Oma Link Rowley Award” from the Amarillo College Theatre. In 2014, she received the “Award for Outstanding Contributions in Instructional Responsibilities” from the Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanities at WTAMU.

Personal Sketch

Ms. Abbasova likes cooking and baking her famous bachlava and borsch. She lives in Amarillo, TX with her husband, an artist. They have two sons and four grandkids.
