Professional Profile

Dr. Rhoades joined the College of Education and Social Sciences in 2004. She received a B.A. in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1984, an M.S. in school psychology from Winthrop University in 1987, a S.S.P. (Specialist in School Psychology) from Winthrop University in 1988, and a Ph.D. in school psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Rhoades directs the school psychology graduate program.  She teaches social and cultural foundations of psychology, psychoeducational assessment, school consultation, professional seminar in school psychology, child development, adolescent development and child psychopathology.

Dr. Rhoades has authored several publications and has made numerous professional presentations in the areas of adolescent substance abuse, multicultural assessment, online instruction, adolescent risk factors and support for gay and lesbian youth.

Dr. Rhoades is a member of the National Association of School Psychologists and serves as a program reviewer.  She is on the executive board of OUTstanding Amarillo. 

Research and Creative Activity

Dr. Rhoades’ research interests include adolescent substance abuse, multicultural child development, psychoeducational assessment, online instruction and using film to teach psychological constructs.

Personal Sketch

Dr. Rhoades lives in Amarillo with her husband, Matthew, a faculty member in History, and their menagerie of rescued pets, Wisdom, Willingness, Faith, Grace, 2nd Chance and Tristan.  She enjoys science fiction, reading, movies and quilting.
