Professional Profile

Dr. Sharp joined the College of Education and Social Science’s Department of Education  in January 2016. She received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Central Florida in 2004, a Master of Education in Elementary Education from the University of Central Florida in 2005, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Tarleton State University in 2010.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Sharp is currently the Dr. John G. O’Brien Distinguished Chair in Education.  In this role, she works to strengthen existing partnerships between WTAMU Department of Education faculty and the leadership of area public school districts to identify topics for research consideration.  After identifying and researching current issues, Dr. Sharp coordinates professional development sessions to share findings with WTAMU Department of Education faculty and area school districts.  Dr. Sharp also seeks appropriate outlets for presenting and publishing research findings on state, national, and international platforms.

Within the Department of Education, Dr. Sharp also teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in education and reading.  She is an active member and leader within several community and professional organizations, including:

  • Specialized Literacy Professionals
  • Association of Literacy Educators and Researchers
  • Texas Association for Literacy Education
  • Texas Council of Teachers of English Language Arts

Research and Creative Activity

Dr. Sharp’s research interests include the integration of English language arts into content area instruction, effective writing instruction, implementing digital tools into instruction, roles and responsibilities of literacy professionals, and andragogical methods with adult learners.

Personal Sketch

Dr. Sharp lives in Canyon, Texas and is married to Dr. Jason Sharp. She also has two daughters, Casey and Katie.  Dr. Sharp enjoys reading, working out, and spending time with her family.
