Professional Profile

Jennifer Wood joined the College of Education and Social Sciences in 2014. She received a B.A. in Psychology from St. Joseph's College in New York in 2001, an MSW from Stony Brook University in 2009, and her Ph.D. in Social Welfare from Stony Brook University in 2014.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Wood currently teaches Statistics for the Social Sciences, Social Policy and Planning, Practice with Diverse Populations, Critical Social Work, Community and Organizational Practice, Integrative Seminar, Clinical Social Work, Writing for the Social Sciences, and Rural Social Work.  Dr. Wood currently serves as the Director of the M.S.S.W. program.

Research and Creative Activity

Jennifer Wood's research interests include qualitative methodology, immigrants and immigration policy, acculturation, anti-oppressive education, social justice, and cultural competency, as well as environmental social work and community organizing.

Personal Sketch

Jennifer Wood was born in Phoenix, Arizona and raised on Long Island, New York. She moved to Texas in 2014 with her husband and bulldog. Jennifer worked in New York with a community mental health clinic, treating clients with HIV/AIDS, people with addiction, Latino immigrants, members of the LGBT community, and children. She also worked in a group private practice, all while working as a community event organizer to raise funds for local nonprofit organizations. Jennifer loves to read, travel, cook, and is an avid baseball fan.
