Institutional Review Board Proposal

Steps to Submission

The three types of IRB reviews are classified as exempt, expedited, and full board reviews. To submit a proposal to the West Texas A&M University IRB, complete the proposal packet, from the three-column table below, that is applicable to your proposed human subjects research.  For assistance in determining the most appropriate IRB proposal to your research, review the Human Subject Regulations Decision Charts. Click on every link in the selected proposal packet to access the necessary instructions and forms. Proposal packets should be single-spaced with page numbers. The proposal cover sheet, narrative, and all attachments should be submitted in one document file.

Instructions:

Step 1 - Complete the appropriate proposal packet listed above.
Step 2 - Submit the proposal to the IRB in electronic or hard copy format to:

Step 3 - Note the date the proposal was submitted and allow 3-5 days for proposal preparation and 10-working days for IRB review.

Step 4 - Continually check your email INBOX for any IRB reviewer comments or an approval notice. Once the IRB approval is granted, data collection may begin.

Step 5 - If the IRB needs clarification or revisions, the request is handled by email. Revisions can be emailed to the IRB chair in response.

Step 6 - An approval notice will be emailed to the PI, followed by a formal approval letter from the graduate school.

Step 7 - Amendments to change the approved protocol can be requested at any time. An email request along with any revised documentation should be sent to the IRB for review.
