Institutional Review Board (IRB) The IRB is charged with the protection of human subjects used in research at the University by complying with regulations specified by the Department of Health and Human Services, as well as with other ethical and professional standards. The procedures are designed to protect the researcher and the University. Researchers, student or faculty, with a project including human subjects should consult the IRB Policies and Procedures Manual for information and instructions prior to beginning research. It generally takes approximately two weeks for proposals to make it through the committee review process, but may take up to six weeks. The proposal coverpage should be attached and all items listed on the proposal checklist included in the IRB proposal submission. IRB approval must be received in writing prior to beginning research. Approval letters will be sent to the primary investigator.
