Graduate School Assistantships WTAMU Graduate School Fall 2012 Recruitment Assistantships Applications may be submitted any time before July 1. Applications will be reviewed once a month, and announcements will be made via email within one week of awards being determined. Current WTAMU graduate students should contact their College or Department for information about available graduate assistantships. Graduate School Scholarships are also available. Qualifications Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for an assistantship: - Must be a degree-seeking WTAMU graduate student in the major represented by the assistantship.
- Must be fully and non-conditionally admitted into the applicable WTAMU graduate program, to include completion of all application procedures, payment of application fees, and successful completion of all program admission requirements (contact the Graduate School for further information).
- International students must have language proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, or ESLI Level III completion) and complete all required credentials. Please contact the International Student Office for more information.
Note: Out-of-state and international students awarded $1000 or more in scholarships or those awarded half-time or greater graduate assistantships (per academic year) qualify for Texas residency tuition for the academic year in which the scholarship or assistantship is awarded. Graduate School Assistantships are contingent on the student not receiving any other funding that waives non-resident tuition. Note: Some assistantships are awarded for a one-year period and require yearly reapplication (up to a maximum of two years). Others are awarded for a two-year period. Still others are awarded on a one-time-only basis. Please see the assistantship description for details. Recipients must fulfill the following requirements each semester in order to continue to receive the assistantship: - Maintain status as a degree-seeking graduate student.
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.00 in program coursework.
- Maintain full-time registration (9 credit hours) in the graduate program represented by the assistantship (unless otherwise noted).
- Maintain both academic and disciplinary good standing by the University.
Reminders: - All assistantships are competitively awarded and are provided contingent upon funding availability.
- Assistantship applications will not be processed and considered if student admission application materials are not complete and student has not been fully accepted into the applicable program.

These collections allow students an opportunity to be actively engaged in curatorial activities, including specimen preparation and maintenance, cataloguing activities, specimen verifications, assembling specimens for teaching purposes, and fulfilling loan requests to other institutions. These activities offer a rare opportunity for broadening skill sets necessary for biological research that focuses on organisms. | | Chemistry and Physics | NMR Graduate School Lab Assistantship (awarded for two years; $12,000 per year) | The Nuclear Magnetic Resonance lab currently consists of a 90 MHz 2-channel FT-NMR spectrometer (2.1 T magnet and a Tecmag LapNMR spectrometer). Students will also gain valuable experiences, on the WTAMU campus, as part of the Academic and Research Environmental Health and Safety program. | | Health Sciences | Human Performance Research Graduate School Lab Assistantship (awarded for two years; $12,000 per year) | The Human Performance Laboratory (HPL) graduate assistant will support the primary investigator with design and implementation of laboratory experiments, perform molecular biology/biochemical analysis, and assist with data reduction and manuscript preparation. Furthermore, the HPL assistant will help undergraduate students with coursework and laboratory experiences and supervise and work with clients in aspects of community wellness to include nutritional analysis, blood lactate analysis, anaerobic power and work capacity, peak aerobic power, and body composition. The selected candidate will need strong organizational skills, proficiency with online database usage, and complete online IRB training. | | | Graduate School Sponsored Reseach Services Faculty Support Assistantship (awarded for two years; $12,000 per year) | The Sponsored Research Services faculty support graduate assistant will report to the executive director of the WTAMU Office of Sponsored Research. The selected candidate will work with faculty in support of facilitating the external funding process. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with faculty from diverse disciplinary backgrounds is necessary. The ability to collect data, review data, and create written synthesis of data is needed.
