Professional Profile

Dr. Farren joined the Sports and Exercise Sciences Department in 2017. He received a B.S. in Psychology from Sam Houston State University in 2006, an M.S. in Kinesiology from University of North Texas in 2013 and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology with Concentration in Sport Pedagogy from the University of North Texas in 2017.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Farren teaches Measurement and Evaluation Techniques, Motor Learning and Skill Acquisition, Motor Development, Applied Instruction in Physical Activity, and Research Techniques.

Dr. Farren completed his thesis, entitled “Factors related to meeting physical activity guidelines in active college students: A social cognitive perspective”, in 2011, which was published in the Journal of American College Health in 2017. He has also published in the Journal of Sport and Health Science, World Journal of Preventive Medicine, and Journal of Park and Recreation Administration. Dr. Farren has presented his research at annual conferences for the American College of Sports Medicine and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology.

Research and Creative Activity

His research interests include the understanding the interrelations among attributes of physical literacy, examining the impact of sedentary behaviors on physical and psychological well-being, and testing measurement in factors related to physical education/activity, sport participation, and exercise science.

Personal Sketch

Dr. Farren is a native Kansan but has lived within the borders of Texas for more than 30 years, currently residing in southwest Amarillo with his son. His interests include backpacking, hiking, and playing sports.
