Audition Information

Auditions are held the first two days of the Fall and Spring semester.  Sign-up for an audition time on the bulletin board outside Room 257 in Mary Moody Northen Hall.  There are three parts to the audition:

  • Prepare two short, contrasting excerpts of your choice (each less than three minutes).  Choose anything from the orchestral or solo literature that best shows off your abilities.

  • You'll be asked to play two major scales.  Perform only as many octaves as you can play well.  This is to exhibit evenness of tone quality and pitch accuracy.

  • You'll perform a short bit of sightreading.

Students from all majors are welcome to audition.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us (see below).
