Success Stories

Mainframe Honors. Anar Huseynov, a senior computer science major from Baku, Azerbaijan, earned second-place honors in the 2007 IBM “Master the Mainframe” Competition, competing against more than 1,700 students from 325 schools across the United States and Canada. Huseynov competed in the contest’s most difficult level of competition—Part 3—and put in extensive work to tackle tasks taken from real-life situations faced by experienced system programmers.

Cost-cutting Collaboration. Students in the College of Business saved the University a considerable sum of money by developing software that tracks products sold at the University Meat Lab from “carcass to cut” to comply with the USDA’s National Animal Identification System.

One of a Kind. The Department of Computer Information Systems operates a Software and Network Security Testing Lab, the only one of its kind in the southwest. It provides new robust paradigms for securing information technology infrastructures and assists entities in establishing benchmarks and performance testing of Internet hardware and software applications.
