He received a bachelors in broadcast journalism from the University of Texas at Austin in 1995, an master's in media studies from the University of North Texas in 2003 and a Ph.D. in intercultural/international communication from the University of Oklahoma in 2008. Teaching and Related Service Dr. Spencer primarily teaches intercultural and international communication and communication theory at the undergraduate level and communication theory and qualitative research methods in the graduate program. He also teaches other courses such as nonverbal communication and performance. Research and Creative Activity Dr. Spencer maintains an active research agenda with a focus on culture and communication. His primary area of research explores language, culture and identity. Dr. Spencer primarily conducts research in Central America. However, he has also investigated this cultural phenomenon in the United States, Cuba, France and Spain. He has presented his research on three continents and published in various journals. Personal Sketch Dr. Spencer lives in Amarillo. He is no stranger to the Texas Panhandle. He lived in Amarillo for three years while he was a reporter for a television station in Amarillo in the 1990s. This WT Buff loves football, tennis, books, movies and most of all-traveling! |
