Major in Agricultural Media and Communication (Major Code: 540)

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree

The Agricultural Media and Communication degree is a bridged program between the Department of Agricultural Sciences and the Department of Mass Communications.  Majors in agriculture include University core requirements, department core requirements, agricultural science core requirements, and major requirements specified under each degree option and total 120 semester credit hours. Students must maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) for all courses at WTAMU counted toward the degree. 

Select BIOL 1411 or 1413, CHEM 1405 or 1411, MATH 1314, IDS 1071 and AGBE 2317 to satisfy core curriculum requirements.

Mass Communication Component (24 hours)

  • MCOM 2315 - Media Writing
  • MCOM 3312 - Advertising Copywriting or MCOM 3322 - TV News Production
  • MCOM 3305 - New Media
  • MCOM 3327 - Mass Media Law
  • MCOM 4302 - Mass Communications Ethics
  • MCOM 3379 - Media Management or MCOM 2327 - Advertising Principles
  • MCOM 4310 - Media Design
Department Core (12 hours)*
  • AGRI or BIOL 3301- Genetics
  • AGRI 3318- Agricultural Statistics
  • ANSC 1319- Principles of Animal Science
  • PSES 1307- Principles of Plant Science
  • AGBE 2317 - Fundamentals of Agricultural Economics

*If AGBE 2317 is used to meet University core requirements, department core is 12 hours.

Major Requirements (13 hours)

  • AGRI 3303 - Agricultural Agencies in the United States
  • AGRI 4103 - Senior Seminar
  • AGRI 4304 - Transfer or Agricultural Technology
  • Six hours from: AGRI 4097 - Undergraduate Research (Senior Project) or AGRI 4098 - Agricultural Internship

Agricultural Electives (9 hours- Six hours must be a 3000- or 4000-level course.)

  • ANSC Elective - 3 hours
  • PSES Elective - 3 hours
  • AGBE Elective - 3 hours

Agricultural Elective (12 hours)

  • 12 hours of any AGBE, ANSC, PSES, or AGRI courses

Mass Communication Minor Requirements (7 hours)

  • MCOM 3099 - Mass Communications Practicum
  • MCOM 1336 - Basic Video Production
  • MCOM 3350 - Public Relations and Publicity
