| Participants will have a selection of unique WTAMU opportunities to explore on Friday, including: - A visitors pass to the on campus Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. Visitors are amazed at all the things that can be seen under one roof at the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. This is the largest history museum in Texas with a collection of more than three million artifacts. Twenty-two different galleries take visitors back in time through art, history, archeology, paleontology, petroleum, transportation and textiles. The museum’s collection of Texas art is considered one of the best in the state. The Remnant Trust Collection will be available for viewing. Colleges and universities around the world have hosted exhibits from The Remnant Trust, and this semester WTAMU will house 50 volumes, thanks to financial support from Dr. James Hallmark, Provost/Vice President from Academic Affairs. Loaned volumes include the Magna Carta, a first-edition King James Bible, a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation, a first-pamphlet printing of the U.S. Constitution and several first editions by such great writers and thinkers as John Adams, Cato, Cicero, Thomas Jefferson, Jean Jacques Rousseau, Percy Shelly and Voltaire.
- Visit with the WTAMU campus mascot, Thunder X, the buffalo. The mighty buffalo has stood the test of time and tradition at West Texas A&M University, gallantly capturing the spotlight at athletic events, parades and public appearances too numerous to count. The first University buffaloes were purchased in 1922 from Colonel and Mrs. Charles C. Goodnight and were appropriately named Charles C. (Charlie) and Mary Ann. Thunder X is cared for year-round by the Herdsmen, an on-campus spirit organization comprised of students who promote school spirit, leadership and service. The Herdsmen have been responsible for each live mascot since Thunder I in 1977. Undoubtedly, the Herdsmen provide one of the most cherished and unique services to West Texas A&M and their work is appreciated by thousands upon thousands of alumni who fondly look upon Thunder X as a source of great pride and tradition at WT.
- Don’t miss a chance to interact with representatives from over 50 diverse master's programs and one Ph.D. in agriculture – with an Ed.D. to arrive on the WTAMU campus soon - all designed to move you where you want to be—from accounting to chemistry to finance to psychology to studio art and so much more. The Graduate School at WTAMU is a dynamic and ever-growing enterprise intent on meeting the needs of students and the region. We continue to develop existing and new programs and invite you to seek information and to join more than 1,600 graduate students at WTAMU in this odyssey.
