A Message from President Wendler:

First Gen Kick Off BashWednesday, Nov. 8 has been designated as the national day to celebrate first-generation college students, and as president of West Texas A&M University, I am proud to join in today’s inaugural “First-generation College Celebration Day.” I encourage you to join me.

Almost half of WTAMU’s student population is represented by first-generation students. They are culturally diverse, imminently talented and dedicated to the college experience as trailblazers for their families. We are happy to have them at WTAMU and are continually striving to develop ways to connect and support their success. F1RSTGEN, a new student organization, is just one of many efforts on campus directed toward helping our first-generation students succeed. The organization is geared toward community engagement and creating avenues of support by working together to help, mentor and work with all students new to WTAMU.

I’m proud to recognize F1RSTGEN and all of those who work hard to support our students. Please take today’s “First-Generation College Celebration Day” as an opportunity to recognize, honor and congratulate our first-generation students on their accomplishments and offer thanks to those who work hard to ensure their success.
