Angela Allen

Chief Officer for Diversity and Inclusion

Allen first joined the WT community in 2013 as an outreach adviser with College Talent Search, working with area high schools to prepare students for college. Before coming to WTAMU, Allen spent more than 20 years at Amarillo College, where she earned the rank of professor. She worked as an academic adviser in Student Support Services, an adjunct faculty member and as sponsor of AC’s Multicultural Student Organization. She’s also worked as an accounting clerk III in AC’s Business Office and as a program director/instructor at the Amarillo College North YMCA Outreach Learning Center.

Allen served as the University’s interim chief diversity and inclusion officer from December 2014 to May 2015 when she was appointed Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer. She works with each of the University’s colleges and schools as well as departments, groups and offices to promote and increase diversity and inclusion across campus. Her work also supports the recruitment and retention of under-served and underrepresented students as well as helping build a diverse faculty and staff.

She is an active member of the community, having served on the board of directors for the Salvation Army, American Red Cross and the AC Ex-Students Association. Allen also is involved with the American Cancer Society, Amarillo NAACP, Amarillo Community Relations Committee, American Red Cross and has served as a loaned executive, account executive and training executive for the United Way of Amarillo.  Allen’s professional organizations include, the Texas Association for Chicanos in Higher Education, a lifetime member of the Texas Association for Black Personnel in Higher Education, the Big 12 Association for Diversity Officers in Higher Education, and the National Association for Diversity Officers in Higher Education.  Allen was recently selected to serve as a Fellow in Cohort 4 of NADOHE's Chief Diversity Officer Fellows Program (CDOFP) for the 2017-2018. She is a lifetime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and served 20 years as director of Christian Education at Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Church.

Allen studied at Amarillo College and earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing at Texas Tech University and a master’s degree in communication from WTAMU. She is currently working on a doctoral degree in college leadership at Colorado State University.
