Good Tuesday morning to you. I tried some second period classes that are further away from the band camp office. I found two in the junior varsity tuba/euph class in the Glass Room in the cafeteria.
Next up were the junior varsity trumpets with Mr. Conner in Shirley Lobby.
Mr. Barney has the junior concert saxophones in Jones Lobby, second floor.
On the third floor is Mrs. Piper-Jarrett and the junior varsity horns.
Going up. Fourth floor. Mr. Zorn and the junior varsity trombones.
Mrs. Freeman was working with the junior varsity percussion.
I spent quite a bit of time with the junior concert band brass and percussion sectional.
Until they kicked me out. I stepped next door and was warmly greated by Mr. Rath and the junior symphonic band.
Mr. Montgomery, who is the other conductor this week for the junior symphonic band, is helping out the trumpet section.
Lunch time. Nothing new to report. The hot food table had spaghetti, corn on the cob, rice, and other items. Then there was a line for hamburgers, corn dogs, fries, cheese sauce, chili. The pizza oven was cranking out pies. Salad bar. Dessert bar. Ice cream treats. I snuck around, surprising unsuspecting diners.
Did you see how stealth I am? Back to work. I visited some of the 1:45 classes. This is the high school trumpet ensemble I. They finished the piece as I finished my job there. Dr. Takacs said that it was the best that they had ever played that piece. It's nice to know that I'm inspiring.
The high school percussion ensemble I will perform tonight at the 7 pm assembly, so they tried their pieces in Northen Recital Hall, so get a feel for the space. NRH is where the junior high percussion ensemble II rehearses, so they were the audience for the first part of the period.
HS percussion ensemble I under the direction of Dr. Tariq.
High school percussion ensemble II.
High school percussion ensemble III.
Jazz improvisation I with Mr. Hinds.
Jazz improvisation II with Mr. Barney.
The junior high tuba/euph ensemble with Mr. Benton.
High school trumpet ensemble II with Mr. Burns in Shirley Lobby.
High school trombone ensemble I with Dr. Shanks.
High school trombone ensemble II with Mr. Myers.
Mrs. Freeman and the junior high school percussion ensemble I.
Ms. Pecht and the junior high school trombone ensemble.
Mrs. Johnson and her twirlers.
The high school horn ensemble started the junior high 3 pm assembly in the Branding Iron Theatre. (It's dark in there, so don't get your hopes up.)
Game time. The contest involved three campers from each band. One camper held an open paper bag balanced on his/her head. The was supposed to be a boot. (Use your imagination.) Another camper was to toss candy worms (a.k.a. "snakes") into the boot from a distance. The first team to get three snakes in the bag wins. The third person on the team, the "gofer," was supposed to go get the failed attempts, pick up the snakes barehanded, and give it to the tosser for another attempt. [There's something you could do at your next party when it begins to drag. I know that I'm going to memorize this exciting game in case I'm ever invited to a party.]
Band posters are due at 5 pm tomorrow, so several of the band leaders are all doing the work for the entire band!
Chillin' out.
The high school percussion ensemble I performed first at the 7 pm assembly. These are the top eight percussionists at band camp.
The our guest artist, Mr. John Tegmeyer performed accompanied by Mr. James Gardner. We express our gratitude to Tarpley Music for sponsoring Mr. Tegmeyer's visit.
A jazz combo joined him. Here's the interesting thing, he took off the mouthpiece and made the clarinet sound like a flute, for the entire piece! Incredible.
And that was Tuesday at band camp.
