Last night at 7 pm student events organized a talent show. Students lining up in eager anticipation of the show.
The master of ceremonies was Forky.
First to perform was Kat, who sang and accompanied herself on the piano. (I know. "Bad picture." Again. Well, my friends, that won't be the last of them.)
Mary played Debussy.
Yared sang a Spanish song. Unaccompanied. That's really brave. He sounded great.
Gretchen did a gymastic routine. What was especially impressive is that she did it on a hard surface and didn't have the advantage of a mat.
Leah sang and Carter accompanied.
Forky was replaced by Phantom at the Opera.
Jaci did a colorguard routine.
Brylee twirled.
Madison danced.
And Brooklyn sang.
The judges voted Brylee, third place; Jaci, second place.
And Mary, first place. Everyone did a great job. The Student Events office put together a video staring themselves that will probably touring the Internet, coming to your town soon.
This morning the campers will have chair tests for next week's concerts, so I didn't take any morning pictures. The new chair placement will begin on Sunday, when they have a new set of conductors. And then this afternoon we'll have our first week's concerts.
I was in the Branding Iron Theatre Saturday afternoon, and this is what I saw. We begin with the junior high school varsity band. Their directors this week were Mr. Mireles and Mr. Dixon.
Sorry. I was a bit fuzzy.
We have two sets of concerts, so the times are staggered. Varsity band began at 2:30 and my bands start on every half hour. The other four bands perform at Northen Hall on the hour. Next is the junior high school concert band. Ms. O'Bryant and Mrs. Mitchell conducted.
(Sorry.)
(Sorry. How many times are you willing to forgive?)
(Sorry.)
Mrs. Mitchell.
Ms. O'Bryant.
There were three young ladies who spoke before the band played.
Next up is the junior high symphonic band with Mr. Rivera and Mr. Cooley.
Number four is the high school white band, with Mr. Rettig and Mr. Sheffield. (Sorry. Do you worry about me driving at night? And I don't drink, if that's what you are thinking!)
(Honestly. If they would just sit still for a moment. Sorry, again. Mea culpa. [Latin for "my fault."] )
(You're probably wondering How he, meaning me, do something like this? Over and over again? It's a gift.
(See, they worked it out.)
(Sorry. You're probably wondering Why doesn't someone put a stop to this? You'll have to do more than wonder. You'll have to take action.)
And our last band for the day is the high school maroon band. I started shooting before the rest of the band arrived. I caught them off guard. Captured them in their natural habitat.
(Take your pick. This one or the next. I know I'm funny looking, but I didn't think it was that bad.)
Sorry, again. Mea culpa. You're probably asking Why don't they take away his shooting license? The joke's on you. I don't have a license? (Except the one attached to my collar in case I get lost and need to be returned to my owner.)
I'm really, really sorry.
I'm really, really sorry.
That's all, folks!
