A. Status:  Ad Hoc 
B. Composition and Tenure: 
The committee consists of six appointed persons from ASA, the chair of  C561-Crop Science Teaching Improvement Committee, Chair of S571-Training of Soil
Scientists, SSSA Representative of Coalition for Earth Science Education, and CSSA person familiar with The Coalition for Education in the Life Sciences, Chair of S584-Soil Science Visibility Committee and Ex Officio- ASA Manager of Professional Education. 

Committee shall be terminated upon completion of tasks noted below.  Final report expected on or before ASA 2001 summer Executive Committee meeting. 
Preliminary reports requested for Executive Committee at 2000 Annual Meeting and Winter 2001.  Winter 2001 report should identify recommendations having
budgetary implications for consideration by B&F Committee. 


C.   Functions: 
1. Develop and prioritize a list of K-16 educational opportunities to focus the    energies and direction of the Societies. 
2. Identify scope and scale of materials and activities ASA should   initiate, develop, produce or support that are appropriate for the Societies K-16 outreach
activities. 
3. Identify a list of potential collaborators or partners for materials development and outreach efforts. 
4. Review the ASA “Education” web site and the education web sites of other scientific societies and present recommendations for an “educator user friendly” site. 
5. Review the list of Basic Concepts in Agronomy, Crops and Soils listed on the Society web page and suggest actions/activities to help educators achieve higher
levels of understanding among their students. 
6. Recommend the kind of organizational support structure the Societies should put in place to support K-16 education efforts.
